Why a Stämpfli?

Success

At Olympics and World Championships events Stämpfli boats, in the hands of Pertti Karpinnen from Finland, probably one of the most successful single scullers in the history of the sport, and others such as Sam Lynch from Ireland have won time and time again.

Pertti Karpinnen won three straight Olympic golds in the Stämpfli single, in Montreal, Moscow, and Los Angeles.

Sam Lynch World Rowing Champion took home gold at the 2001 & 2002 World Rowing Championships. Sam competed in 10 senior World Championships and represented Ireland in the 1996 and 2004 Olympics.

Stämpfli boats have won many National Championships, National Regattas, National Heads, National trials and other Competitions such as the Armada-Cup 2007.

Mahe Drysdale, World Champion single sculler won the Armada-Cup 2007 on Lake Wohlensee, Switzerland in a Stämpfli S1 and then went on to set a new record in the Stämpfli S1 in the Turin SilverSkiff 2007.

Stämpfli has become over many years a recognised leader worldwide for speed, outstanding quality, technical innovation and service excellence. Stämpfli is the most experienced boatbuilding company in the world and now combines Swiss and British experience in order to deliver world-beating boats.

Technology & Innovation

Stämpfli was always at the forefront of introducing technology and innovation to racing boats. During the 1950s the company experimented with the design of a U-shaped hull rather than the more common semi-circle shape. This proved to be successful and the rest of the rowing world switched to the new design.

Also at this time the development of the first Aluminium rigger was underway to replace the traditional steel riggers and thus to dramatically reduce the weight of the boats.

Differences between a Stämpfli and a Janousek Racing Boat

The main differences between a Janousek & a Stämpfli Racing Boat:

  1. Janousek boats are constructed with approximately 50% carbon and 50% glass fibre. Stämpfli boats are constructed with approximately 90% carbon and 10% glass fibre. This results in both boats being fast, strong and durable. Therefore the Stämpfli boats are substantially stiffer being a full carbon boat.
  2. Stämpfli boats have upgraded fittings than those on Janousek boats. All aluminium parts are hard anodised, all seats are carbon rather than wood and all shoes are Adidas AdiStar or New Wave rather than Janousek Rowing Shoes.
  3. Stämpfli boats tend to be more suitable for those rowers aspiring to, or at, the higher levels of the sport.
