Fours/Quads

Design

Stämpfli currently offers three different hull shapes in the Four/Quad range. We have taken three of the most successful hull shapes in the world and produced light, stiff racing boats that have over the last 20 years won all the major races.

The X4 (FISA Short Mould) is similar to the X2 Pair/Double. This is recognised as the fastest shape in its category for oarsmen and women weighing between 55kg to 80kg.

It is extremely popular with juniors and all categories of lightweight rowing. In the past it has won numerous World and Olympic gold medals in its class and continues to dominate both international and national rowing regattas. It benefits from parallel sax boards that make frig rigging a simple operation.

The S4 (Long Mould) is a proven fast shape. It is longer than the X4 shape and also has parallel sax boards. Because of the hull shape, it requires more attention to balance the boat and therefore inexperienced crew may find it difficult to sit. It is therefore more of a senior oarsmen's and women's boat, but once mastered, you can expect to produce fast times.

The SV4 (VEB Mould) is slightly shorter and wider than the Long Mould, which makes it comfortable and easy to sit, and lends itself to being suitable for any standard of oarsman/woman. This shape has achieved widespread success at various championships, Henley Royal Regatta and national regattas.

The VEB shape is the best selling hull shape since it was first used in the 1990s.

Stämpfli are proud to offer 11 different hull sizes for the SV4, each size having a 5kg average crew weight allowance. This sizing provides much finer building of boats.

Construction

Stämpfli boats are manufactured by using Nomex honeycomb sandwiched between high quality prepregnated carbon (90%) and glass fibre (10%), then heated under vacuum pressure and cured at 130°C. The resulting bond is 6–8 times stronger than the "wet lay-up" used by other manufacturers.

This substantially increased strength of bond, together with the use of carbon fibre, makes the hull stiffer, more durable and far less susceptible to damage.

Technical Specifications

All hull sizes are built to or below FISA Minimum Weight, and all hulls conform to FISA Buoyancy Guidelines.
